Book Review: Fearless by Max Lucado
Fearless: Imagine Your Life Without Fear
By: Max Lucado
As a counselor and someone who has personally struggled through periods of fear and anxiety, I believe Max Lucado’s book Fearless offers a great reminder for Christians that we can overcome fear and live life without it. Unlike most popular books that address the cultural epidemic of fear with self-help techniques to manage it, Fearless reminds the reader that trusting God’s Word is the ultimate way to overcome fear.
Lucado addresses common fears that plague people today, including those with which he has wrestled. He also addresses why we are afraid in the first place and how our fears reveal our lack of faith in God. I appreciate that Fearless does not write off our fears as ridiculous. Instead, Lucado reminds us that we may not understand the pain and suffering in the world, but that does not mean we should live in anticipation of it. We should seek to trust Jesus through the help of the Holy Spirit.
While reading this book, I thought of several people I know who would benefit from Lucado’s scriptural insights without becoming bogged down by theological or psychological language. His writing style is very casual and easy to read.
I received this book from Thomas Nelson Publishers as a book reviewing blogger. I only give this book four out of five stars though because I wish it more clearly guided non-Christians to the one who makes it possible to live without fear, Jesus.
